After this conviction steps were at once taken to endeavour to obtain proof against those public officers whose names appeared in the list found by Mr May. Important information was obtained from the arrested Keeper of the Gambling house and from certain other Chinese who had been arrested. In consequence of this information "I interdicted the following officers from duty: - Inspectors Stanton and Quincey and Sergeant Holt, the Chief officers of the Detective Department; also Inspector Baker, the Inspector in charge of the District in which the Gambling house raided was situated. Most of the Chinese Detectives, all of whose names appeared in the list
